Over the last week, several cities and counties in the Kansas City region have begun implementing mask mandates when visiting businesses and other public spaces.
Mask requirements continue to spread, this week the city of North Kansas City, Mo. and Clay County releasing statements that mandates are to begin this week, North Kansas City’s requirement going into effect today, July 2.
Across state lines, Douglas County, Kan. has said its health officer will issue a new order to close bars and nightclubs in the county beginning Friday and for the next two weeks, according to reporting by KMBC 9 News.
Missouri reports that it has tested a total of 389,740 people through PCR testing as of Wednesday. PCR looks for the virus itself in the nose, throat, or other areas in the respiratory tract to determine if there is an active infection with SARS-CoV-2. Of those tested through PCR, 5.5% of those were positive.
The state has also said it has tested 43,529 through serology testing, a method which looks for antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 in the blood to determine if there has been an infection in the past. Results show that 3.6% tested positive through serology testing.
As of Thursday, Missouri has reported 21,927 confirmed cases and 1,017 deaths, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment shows 14,990 confirmed cases and 272 deaths in Kansas.
