Construction of second facility for families of local hospitalized veterans underway

Patients at the Kansas City VA Medical Center can expect the nearby construction of a new Fisher House facility to finish by summer 2021, which will benefit veterans receiving care by allowing their loved ones to stay within close proximity.

A new facility now under construction will benefit veterans receiving care at the Kansas City VA Medical Center and their families, by allowing veterans’ loved ones to live nearby.

The new facility is called the Fisher House and is anticipated to house around 500 families each year after its completion next year in summer 2021.

Construction for the project moved forward in large part due to a national program through the nonprofit Fisher House Foundation that constructs similar housing for families of veterans receiving medical care in other parts of the country.

Overall, the project is estimated to cost $7.5 million and make up 13,270-square-feet. This new building will be the second constructed in Missouri.
