Construction of new Children’s Mercy headquarters to finish this month

Children’s Mercy Research Institute's new research tower is set to be complete by the end of this month with occupants to make a gradual move into the building starting in October, through mid-February.

A new nine-story, 375,000-square foot headquarters for Children’s Mercy Research Institute is slated to finish construction this month.

The new building’s design is said to be more energy efficient and support a more collaborative approach to research between physicians, scientists, academic colleagues and others.

Included in the design is a 12-inch-deep all-glass curtain wall system for better insulation, an 8-by-8-foot glass box vestibule near the main entrance, a 400-seat auditorium and creative arts and performance space.

McCownGordon Construction served as general contractor for the $200 million dollar project.

Once complete, occupants will begin a gradual move into the new building beginning in October, the move expected to finish by mid-February. The building is expected to be fully open by spring 2021.
