Congress Logistics Center nears completion, could receive investment from manufacturing company

VanTrust Real Estate’s northland Congress Logistics Center could potentially receive a $150 million-dollar investment from an interested company hoping to use the space as a manufacturing facility. Covering 637,368 square feet, construction is expected to wrap in Q2 of 2021.

Located near the Kansas City International Airport (KCI), the Congress Logistics Center is scheduled to complete in early Q2 of 2021, and already has attracted the attention of and undisclosed manufacturing company interested in investing around $150 million.

The company could potentially invest in the center to use the space as a manufacturing facility.

Once complete, the building will offer 637,368-square-feet of space with 63 dock-high doors, four drive-in doors, 36-foot clear height and car and trailer parking.

VanTrust Real Estate LLC is still in early in talks to sell the Congress Logistics Center to the manufacturer, though according to Port KC, the company is considered a reputable buyer.

“Our job is to finish the building as planned, maybe make some modifications with the new or to-be owner, and get it done,” VanTrust Real Estate’s director of development, Grant Harrison, said.

If the center receives the investment, the manufacturing facility would fall within a broader 155-acre Congress Logistics Center master plan that the Kansas City Council approved in 2018.

An upcoming Port KC full board meeting on Feb. 22 could also result in an agreement to transfer documents relating to around $35.5 million in taxable revenue bonds to the new buyer.
