Closer Look at the P&G and Harley Closures

If you take them at face value, the closures of the P&G and Harley Davidson plants in 2020 and 2019 seem like a big hit to the industry in Kansas City as a whole.  But when you look closer you will find that this is a small portion of a very large and quickly growing industry in our area.

The Harley Davidson plant closure is estimated to eliminate about 800 jobs.  That number is less than 1/4 of 1% of the total number of manufacturing jobs available right now.  There are more than 80,000 manufacturing jobs available and many companies are looking to hire exactly the kind of workers who may be losing their jobs with companies like Harley or P&G.  Right now the consensus of the manufacturing companies is that the jobs from P&G and Harley will likely be quickly absorbed into the workforce.
