Clinical trial testing begins at KU Medical Center for those with mild COVID-19 symptoms

On Tuesday, the University of Kansas Medical Center began clinical trials for a new treatment that aims to help infected individuals with mild COVID-19 symptoms, the trial conducted through a National Institutes of Health program and could help reduce future coronavirus hospitalizations in the area.

A new study has begun at the University of Kansas Medical Center as it started clinical trials for a new COVID-19 treatment Tuesday.

The new treatment aims to help infected individuals with mild COVID-19 symptoms that have not been hospitalized due to the coronavirus.

Although trials are being conducted at the University of Kansas Medical Center, treatments are being done through the National Institutes of Health program which was released earlier this year during the spring.

The university is one of just 40 different sites testing treatments for infected patients who are not hospitalized.

Known as ACTIV-2, the trial will test multiple agents against COVID-19.

If effective, treatments being conducted through the trial could potentially help reduce future coronavirus hospitalizations in the Kansas City area.
