City Sets Hearings on KCI Funding Plan

Kansas City officials today announced that a proposal to use private financing for a new single-terminal system at Kansas City International Airport would be aired in a pair of public hearings this week.

The $1 billion financing proposal put forth by Burns & McDonnell earlier this month, hailed by city officials as an innovative approach to move forward on a stalled initiative, has run into opposition from some quarters because it would avoid the bidding processes generally involved with large infrasturcture projects.

The first of the hearings is set for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in Salon D-E at KCI, followed by Thursday’s hearing at 9:15 a.m. in the City Council chambers on the 26th floor of City Hall.  In the meantime, the city has provided on-line platforms for information on the KCI proposal (here) and for providing public comment (here).
