Children’s Mercy Names Dr. Clark Andrew Bonham Director of Transplant Center

Children’s Mercy announced that Dr. Clark Andrew Bonham will become the new director of the hospital’s transplant center.

Bonham will now serve Children’s Mercy as the Director of the Division of Transplant Surgery and Director of the Transplant Research Program at its Brendan Tripp Elam Transplant Center, according to a release.

An Oklahoma native, Bonham previously served a 22-year tenure at Stanford Hospital and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. In that role, Bonham led multi-disciplinary transplant teams, managed complex organ transplant programs and directed the Live Donor Liver Transplant and Intestinal Transplant programs.

“His [Bonham] vision for the transplant program is rooted in urgency, equity, and excellence – and it will expand access to life-saving care across our region,” executive vice president and physician-in-chief at Children’s Mercy, Doug Rivard, said in the release. “This is what leadership looks like; the right person, at the right time, for the right reasons – and with the power to change lives.”

Additionally, helping increase liver transplant volume by 30% and implementing protocols to reduce the length of stay for patients are some of Bonham’s accomplishments while working at Stanford.

In February, Children’s Mercy Kansas City announced several key leadership promotions that focus on advancing research initiatives and expanding its regional presence. Among them, Stephanie Meyer was promoted to executive vice president and chief nursing executive as well as the chief operating officer for inpatient operations.

Then, in March, Children’s Mercy Kansas City unveiled its plans to build a new 18,000-square-foot multi-specialty ambulatory clinic in Wichita to address the community’s growing need for pediatric care.
