Burns & McDonnell KCI HOMETOWN Team to Hold Jobs Rally

The Burns & McDonnell KCI HOMETOWN Team will lead a jobs rally at Mark One Electric this morning to introduce 20 new members of the project team and share new details about the proposed construction schedule, job training and pre-apprentice programs for Kansas City minority and women-owned businesses.

Key players from Burns & McDonnell, JE Dunn, McCownGordon and other members of the KCI construction and design team—which includes HOK, Populous, BNIM, Wellner-Architects and Garcia Architecture—will gather at the outdoor rally. The team is slated to submit a joint proposal to the Kansas City Council on July 27, with the city expected to select a winning team by August 14. Next, the plan will go up for public vote by Kansas City residents in November.

Officials have said that the privately financed airport terminal might well be the first of its kind in the nation, funded by private investment and airport usage fees. In a move to placate anti-tax opposition to proposed changes, no funds would come from the city’s general fund, from new taxes, or existing bonds.
