Berkshire Hathaway Acquires KC’s Largest Home Builder

Summit Custom Homes, Kansas city’s largest home builder, has been acquired the Clayton home building group, a Berkshire Hathaway subsidiary. The acquisition includes approximately 1,200 lots in the Kansas City metropolitan area.

“Acquiring companies like Summit Custom Homes, which is a leader in its market, is a crucial part of our strategy,” said Keith Holdbrooks, president of Clayton home building group. “We’re excited to welcome Summit’s 54 team members to the Clayton family, and look forward to building high-quality homes in the Kansas City area.”

With more than $86 million in 2015 revenue, Summit has built 1,200 homes since it began in 2002, won more than 100 awards for excellence and is a 5-time member of Ingram’s “Corporate Report 100” list of fastest growing companies in Kansas City.

Fred Delibero, CEO of Summit Custom Homes, said “Our partnership with Clayton will allow Summit to build upon an already successful track record as the leading new home builder in Kansas City and accelerate our growth, both locally and regionally, all while maintaining our brand identity and existing team.”
