ARTerra Project Starts in Crossroads

With site preparation completed, construction has begun on the 12-story luxury residential building dubbed ARTerra–the first high-rise apartment building in Downtown’s Crossroads Arts District.

The project at 21st and Wyandotte is a joint development between Kansas City’s Copaken Brooks and St. Louis-based Altus Properties. Designed to integrate into the historic neighborhood, it also will serve as a visual beacon for the district, developers say, towering over nearby properties.

Upon completion, it will add 126 units, from studio to three bedrooms in size, plus ground-floor retail, a parking garage and various high-end apartment amenities. HOK designed the project, which is set for completion in August 2018, and JE Dunn Construction is the lead contractor.

“Creating a new construction option in the heart of the Crossroads, ARTerra, provides the first Downtown high-rise living outside of the successful projects in the loop,” said Jon Copaken, principal at Copaken Brooks. “It will integrate with, and complement the uniqueness of the Crossroads, and will provide access to some of the best amenities, galleries and restaurants in the market. Building on the momentum of Corrigan Station, we know the Crossroads is an area where people want to be and they will now have a highly amenitized option where they can live.”
