Sommelier Showdown for Hope House

Kansas City wine enthusiasts who want to show off their knowledge of wine will soon get their chance when the annual Sommelier Showdown returns in January 2023 to Sail Away Wine, the area’s premier, self-service wine bar in North Kansas City. At Sail Away Wine, visitors can explore the best in wine from around the world without ever leaving our getaway.

Your readers will want to mark their calendars because Sail Away Wine is looking for participants to take part in our Big 12-like wine tournament. Beginning Jan. 2 and running through Jan. 29, anyone interested can stop by Sail Away Wine at 309 Armour Road, North Kansas City, and fill out an entry form for $15. Participants will do a blind taste test of one glass of wine and then they’ll have three minutes to fill out a questionnaire about the wine selection.

The contestant pool will start with 32 competitors and continue to shrink until the remaining four contestants compete in person on March 1 for a chance to win a $1,000 cash prize. All money raised from the competition will benefit Hope House, a domestic violence shelter in Kansas City.

This competition is open to anyone who loves wine. No professional wine experience is needed to participate. In fact, last year’s first runner up in the Sommelier Showdown had no experience in the food and wine industry at all!
