KC Symphony: Mendelssohn’s “Scottish”

Friday March 8, 2019 • 8 p.m. • Kauffman Center • TBA

8 p.m.

Rossini’s William Tell Overture gallops out of the gate in this energetic concert, followed by pianist Alessio Bax who returns to perform Barber’s technically demanding Piano Concerto. Mendelssohn’s boyhood trip to Scotland inspired his Symphony No. 3, “Scottish.” Esteemed conductor Edo de Waart leads us through Mendelssohn’s lilting score with its impressions of ancient palace ruins, an old bagpipe melody and lively Scottish dances.

It will be held at the Kauffman Center from March 8 to 10 at 8 p.m. for Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. for Sunday. Tickets are not yet on sale.
