The Child Protection Center (CPC) is excited to bring to Kansas City its 5th Annual “Cook for Courage – KC’s Best Que with Local Brew” event!

The CPC’s signature event will feature amazing local chefs, including Cherven Desauguste ofMesobClark Grant of Hogshead Kansas CityJonathan Justus of Justus DrugstoreJohn Smith of EJ’s Urban Eatery; and Bobby Stearns of Ophelia’s Restaurant. These incredible chefs have generously chosen to share their talents with the CPC for the benefit of children in Kansas City.

On Sunday, May 20 2018, these local chefs will compete in a barbecue cook-off to prepare the best smoked ribs. In addition local breweries, including Border Brewing Company, Colony Handcrafted Ales, Crane Brewing Company, Kansas City Bier Company, Rock & Run Brewery and Pub, and Stockyards Brewing Co. will compete for the best brew!
 
Patrons are invited to come and enjoy the ambiance of the Historic 12th Street Bridge in the West Bottoms while listening to music by the Heater Newman Band! Each patron will have the opportunity to sample both the ribs and a side dish prepared by each chef. Dessert will be provided byHeirloom Bakery and Hearth. Patrons, along with a celebrity panel of judges including food and beer writer Pete Dulin, Owner of Bluestem and Rye Chef Colby Garrelts, KMBC News Anchor Lara Moritz and Owner of Port Fonda Chef Patrick Ryan, will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite ribs/sides and brew!
 
The VIP Pre-Party will feature a signature cocktail from Lifted Spirits and beer from Boulevard Brewing Company, and will take place between 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. The Main Event will take place between 6:00 – 8:30 p.m.
 
Why barbecue? Because barbecue is Kansas City. Why the CPC? Because the CPC helps children who have experienced abuse develop the courage to overcome
