A national shortage in trucking drivers has prompted Overland Park-based Yellow Corp. to launch a widespread recruiting effort to fill 1,500 commercial driver positions.
Yellow (formerly YRC Worldwide Inc.) is looking for direct hires, accepting applicants who have not yet earned their commercial driver’s license. The company is offering training at one of its 12 Yellow Driving Academies nationwide and plans to open several new driving academies in the spring.
“At a time when many Americans are looking to start a new career, Yellow is in hire mode,” Yellow CEO Darren Hawkins said in a news release. “These are good jobs with competitive benefits in a community near you. Our number one asset is our 30,000 freight professionals.”
About 70 percent of freight is transported on highways across the U.S. and the demand for services has not slowed. However, the trucking industry faces a massive shortage of drivers.
