Wichita State University announced the results of its 2022 Economic Impact Study, showing its total economic impact in Kansas in 2021 reached $1.3 billion.
According to the study published earlier in August, WSU and WSU Tech’s 3,083 faculty and staff along with their other operating expenses, support 5,293 jobs and $342 million in annual labor income within the Kansas economy.
Furthermore, the study also accounted for student spending which reached a total of impact of 4,555 jobs, $162 million in labor income, and over $603.7 million in retail goods, food, entertainment, and housing.
The study said tourism resulted in 230 jobs, $7.7 million in labor income, and $23.8 million in output.
The purchase of equipment, vehicles and buildings regarding temporary jobs such as construction labor accounted for $90.5 million in the fiscal year 2021. The study goes on to say those investments generated 1,580 jobs and a total output of $183 million in economic activity. Also, for every million dollars spent, WSU and WSU tech support an additional $1.27 million of activity among Kansas businesses, according to the study.
