Local iconic hamburger chain Winstead’s, which is in its 80th year of business, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, along with its parent company Haddad Restaurant Group, late last month, and Kansas Bankruptcy Court proceedings are currently ongoing.
Winstead’s still currently operates its original location, just east of the Country Club Plaza, as well as spots in Leawood and Overland Park. Last year it closed a location in Olathe, near Oak Park Mall, and a Blue Springs location shut its doors in 2018. However, earlier that year, the Haddad Restaurant Group executives told media outlets that they were planning to expand the chain.
Haddad Restaurant Group also still owns the Plaza III Steakhouse, in Overland Park. But it closed its Fred P. Ott’s restaurants in Overland Park and the Country Club Plaza recently.
Winstead’s, known for its steakburgers and 1950s-style Art Deco exterior and soda fountains, is reportedly, along with Haddad Restaurant Group, facing debt between $500,000 and $1 million.
