Westlake Ace Hardware will be expanding its Austin presence after an acquisition deal with Breed & Co. closes later this year.
Westlake Ace Hardware announced it has agreed to acquire four stores from Breed & Co. Ace Hardware, a family-owned retailer based in Austin, Texas. Westlake Ace will acquire all three Breed & Co. locations in Austin; 718 W. 29th St.; 3663 Bee Cave Rd.; 166 Hargraves Dr. and Spicewood Ace Hardware at 20700 State Highway 71 West.
The acquisition will be completed on September 30, 2024, according to a release Monday.
“For more than 50 years, Breed & Co. has offered Austin homeowners quality hardware and fine specialty products in a convenient and welcoming shopping environment,” Westlake Ace Hardware CEO Joe Jeffries said in the release. “Their business model is exemplary, particularly in the way they take care of their employees and customers.”
The three Breed & Co. stores will keep their branding while the Spicewood location will rebrand under the Westlake Ace name. All stores will keep current management and personnel.
Founded in 1970 by Truman Breed, Breed & Co. is run by Dave and Mahin Barker who purchased the chain in 2015. In 2022, the Bakers opened a traditional Ace Hardware store in North Austin, which they will retain ownership of once the acquisition is finalized.
In May Westlake Ace Hardware announced it agreed to acquire Bishop Ace Hardware, a 13-store chain in central Illinois. Westlake Ace Hardware reported generated revenue of over $613 million in 2023.
