USDA Announce $6.3 Billion Investment in Rural Infrastructure

The US Department of Agriculture has announced it plans to invest more than $6 billion in rural infrastructure across 44 states, including Kansas and Missouri.

The USDA will provide $5.7 billion in funding through the Electric Infrastructure Loan and Loan Guarantee Program which will directly help fund electric infrastructure and smart-grid technologies in 23 states.

Additionally, the USDA is also investing nearly $642 million through the Water and Waste Disposal Loans and Grants program and the Solid Waste Management Grants program. These funds will expand reliable drinking water and drainage infrastructure in 41 states.

“These investments will build modern infrastructure that will attract employers to the nation’s smallest towns and most remote communities, creating jobs, vibrant Main Streets, and lasting economic growth for the people who live there,” USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack, said in a Tuesday release.

More than 200 projects will benefit from these investments.

Eight projects in Kansas will receive $79,079,000 million, including:

This Rural Development investment will be used to demolish and construct a wastewater transmission main to the existing Spring Hill wastewater treatment plant.

 

City of Dexter $1,303,000 $0

This Rural Development investment will be used to help the city of Dexter replace their cast iron water mains, fire hydrants, and water valves to reconnect to service lines.

 

City of Osawatomie $30,566,000 $15,381,000

This Rural Development investment will be used to help the city of Osawatomie construct a new water treatment plant and replace the existing distribution lines. The updates will
include pre-sedimentation basins, flocculation basins, sedimentation basins, ozone system, filters, and clear wells.

 

City of Fowler $3,700,000 $1,100,000

This Rural Development investment will be used to help the city of Fowler replace and upgrade water mains to C900 PVC pipe and replace isolation valves and hydrants as necessary.

 

City of Belle Plaine $8,593,000 $3,143,000

This Rural Development investment will be used to help the city of Belle Plaine replace their remaining distribution system. The overall project will construct a new 300,000-gallon elevated storage tank and a new ion exchange nitrate removal treatment plant.

 

Wabaunsee Co Rwd #1 $1,932,000 $0

This Rural Development investment will be used to allow improvements to the water system of Wabaunsee County Rural Water District No 1.

 

City of Solomon $7,878,000 $0

This Rural Development investment will be used to help the city of Solomon replace 33,000 feet of water lines, installation of new radio read water meters, and upgrading infrastructure related to four water wells.

 

Twin Valley Electric Cooperative $4,875,000 $0

This Rural Development investment will be used to connect 57 consumers, and build and improve 38 of line. This loan includes $277,600 in smart grid technologies.

 

Five projects in Missouri will receive $54,115,000 million, including:

This Rural Development investment will be used to build nine miles of transmission line.

 

City of Matthews $580,000 $580,000

This Rural Development investment will be used to complete improvements to the city’s water production and distribution systems in Matthews, Missouri.

 

Harrison County PWSD #2 $1,663,000 $3,307,000

This Rural Development investment will be used to construct two new wells and a new raw water transmission main to supply to the existing treatment plant in Bethany, Missouri.

 

City of Bernie $500,000 $500,000

This Rural Development investment will be used to complete improvements to the city’s complete water distribution system, water treatment plant, and water storage tanks.
