The most recent weekly report from the U.S. Department of Labor shows yet another drop in unemployment insurance claims.
Seasonally adjusted initial claims for the week ending Sept. 12 was 860,000, a decrease of 33,000 from the previous week’s revised level, according a Thursday news release from the department.
For the week ending Sept. 5, the revised level bumped the advance figure by 9,000 claims from 884,000 to 893,000. Each week claims have dropped, showing continued improvement.
By Sept. 12, the 4-week moving average was 912,000 the report said, a decrease of 61,000 from the previous week’s revised average.
The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 8.6 percent for the week ending Sept. 5, a decrease of 0.7 percentage point from the previous week’s revised rate, according to the report. The previous week’s rate was revised up by 0.1 from 9.2 to 9.3 percent.
