Unemployment Claims Dropping

Claims for unemployment were at just under 1.9 million in the United States for the week ending May 30, a drop from the just over 2.1 million reported by the Department of Labor the prior week.

That brings the insured unemployment rate during the COVID-19 pandemic to 14.8 percent, which is a 0.5-percent increase from the previous seven days.

Claims in Kansas were at 10,429, down from 11,232 the prior week. In Missouri there were 19,139 claims, down from 27,436.

This follows promising news from ADP, which said that there was a 2.76 million drop in payrolls in May, which is a major improvement from April, when the payroll-assistance firm said that they fell by 19.6 million.
