Most hospitals evaluated for the Hospital Readmissions Reduction Program will face a Medicare payment cut in fiscal year 2021.

Cuts range from 0.01 percent to 3 percent, the maximum payment slash to affect two hospitals in the metro in both Kansas and Missouri.

Thirty-nine hospitals across the U.S. will receive a maximum payment cut, including Providence Medical Center located in Kansas City, Kan. and St. Mary’s Medical Center in Blue Springs, Mo.

Eighty-three percent of the 3,080 hospitals evaluated for the program will face Medicare readmission penalties.

Only the 39 hospitals will be given the 3 percent cut for every Medicare case during fiscal year 2021, which runs Oct. 1 through Sept. 2021.
