Connecticut-based XPO, Inc. has proposed plans to create a 180,000-square-foot-plus trucking facility in northwest Shawnee.

XPO rezoning approval of approximately 45 acres east of Kansas 7 Highway on the north side of W. 43rd Street just south of the future Kaw Lake Park.

The trucking facility would include a 152,236-square-foot truck terminal and a 31,685-square-foot maintenance building. The terminal would span 1,671 feet wide, capable of accommodating 291 dock terminals on the north and south sides of the building.

The land is currently designated agricultural, if approved the site would be rezoned as planned industrial.

During the City Council meeting held Monday afternoon, council members remanded the proposal for the trucking facility back to the planning commission for additional considerations. Members of the planning commission will address further logistics of the facility including the number of trucks the facility can accommodate and potential hours of operation.
