Treasury Secretary Mnuchin says $400 weekly benefit to be distributed soon

Following the signed executive action on Saturday, Mnuchin said in a White House press briefing earlier this week that he expects most states to administer the extra benefit by the end of August.

This past Saturday, President Trump signed an executive action that is soon scheduled to take effect in each state, the action set to provide an extra $400 per week in unemployment benefits to Americans.

A White House press briefing on Monday included questions as to when the extra funding would be distributed.

The added unemployment benefit comes as part of a memorandum Mr. Trump issued to the Department of Labor, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, reports Forbes. The memorandum called for an “Assistance Program for Lost Wages.”

This latest action arrived after the expiration of other unemployment benefits at the end of July.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said during the Monday briefing that he expects most states to administer the extra benefit by the end of August.

“Within the next week or two, most will be able to execute,” Mnuchin said.
