PUBLISHED MAY 2025
Fifteen years into the Ingram’s 100, a few noteworthy metrics jump off the list for 2025’s roster of the largest enterprises in the Kansas City region:
• Almost defying the odds with geographic distribution, the three biggest top lines on this list come out of Wyandotte County—historically, the region’s poorest. Dairy Farmers of America and Associated Wholesale Grocers, two agribusiness/food sector cooperatives, and a public health authority not directly supported by tax dollars, The University of Kansas Health System, combined for $52.61 billion in revenues—more than one-fourth of the Top 100 total.
• Only one other company, Security Benefit Corp. of Topeka, cracked the $10 billion threshold, giving Kansas a clean sweep of the 11-figure companies.
• This year, 44 companies surpassed the $1 billion mark, up slightly from 41 a year ago. What has changed over time is the membership of that club. When the Ingram’s 100 debuted in 2011 (based on 2010 revenues), only 21 companies beat that mark.
• And no, that increase in numbers is not solely a function of inflation. Applying the Consumer Price Index to 2010 baselines, a company would need to top $1.48 billion today to match that Year One performance. This year, 31 companies surpassed that level. So the biggest among them are getting bigger, relative to the rest of the field.
• All told, the Ingram’s 100 posted revenues of $194.84 billion in 2024. That’s up a quite respectable 10.45 percent from the previous year’s $176.41 billion.
• Health care once again dominated the list, with 28 hospitals in the final field. They combined for more than $66 billion in revenues, slightly more than one-third of the entire Top 100 combined.
• One final highlight: once a company attains sufficient scale to crack the Ingram’s 100, large percentage gains—on the order of 100 percent or more—are quite rare. Doubling of a nine-figure base isn’t easy. But one company out there turned in perhaps the most remarkable year-over-year performance in the history of the Ingram’s 100: Cable Dahmer Auto Group. Fueled by massive fleet-vehicle orders, Carlos Ledezma’s team shot up the list more than 30 spots, a staggering 338.14 percent increase.
As always, this list includes organizations that might not traditionally be considered “private” companies. But given the impact of health-care services on the regional economy, it would be journalistic malpractice to compile this list without the large medical centers and hospitals.
Why? Well, they employ more than 62,000 people, and their reach throughout the region encompasses all types of providers of goods and services: electronic-health companies, food service vendors, medical and surgical suppliers, makers of pharmaceutical components, maintenance services—it’s a long list. So be they “public” in organizational structure, whether a small-town municipal hospital or the biggest of them all, they are factored into the Top 100 calculus here.
