Swope Health held a groundbreaking for its new 12-acre campus, Swope Health Village.
Swope Health Village, located on the 5900 block of Swope Parkway, is a $126 million campus designed to offer affordable housing, mental health services, geriatric services, community gardens and a community center. The City of Kansas City has allocated $5 million for the project. The project will also serve as an extension to the Kansas City Health Department, adding 10 beds for substance abuse treatment.
Upon completion, the campus will comprise 200 units of senior affordable housing and 75 units of mental health housing. Additionally, 15 apartments will support participants in Swope Health’s Programs of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly.
The project represents a commitment to build up the Southeast side of Kansas City, Mayor Quinton Lucas said at the groundbreaking ceremony.
“Look at what we are building for what it will be. What we are building for that future, a future that guarantees access to healthcare in our community. That future that guarantees that seniors and all types of folks from all ages can have safe, outstanding, exceptional places to stay,” Lucas said.
McCownGordon Construction is the general contractor for the campus. Swope Health is also partnering with architectural firms Perkins Eastman, HFG Architecture and Moody Nolan for planning and design.
