Stricter laws involving gun crimes take effect today in Missouri

In a continued effort to reduce violent crime in the state, new laws with mandatory prison sentences and increased penalties take effect today under Senate Bill 600.

Beginning Friday, Missouri will be imposing stricter laws for violent crime cases involving use of a deadly weapon.

New law aimed at reducing violent crime in Missouri with mandatory prison sentences and increased penalties comes in under Senate Bill 600, a bill signed by Gov. Parson last month in July and scheduled to officially take effect today.

“SB 600 holds violent offenders accountable for their actions and is a major step towards safety and justice for our communities,” Parson wrote in a statement. “We must continue working together to identify solutions, address crime, and keep Missourians safe.”

Moving forward, people convicted of murder or any dangerous felony involving a deadly weapon will no longer be eligible to be sentenced to probation.
