The Graduate School of the Stowers Institute for Medical Research has named Dr. Jennifer Gerton, as its new dean.

Gerton joined the Stowers Institute in 2002 as an investigator. Her research focuses on chromosome organization and segregation and how chromosomes contribute to cancer, infertility and birth defects, according to the release.

Gerton earned her undergraduate in human biology and a Ph.D. in microbiology and immunology from Stanford University in California.

“The growth and achievements of the Graduate School and our graduates in such a short time is truly remarkable and it is an honor to now help ensure its success continues into the future,” Gerton said.

In March, the Stowers Institute named Dr. Matt Gibson, who recently began his new role on July 1, as its third president.
