Southwest Airlines, which is considered the carrier with the most flights through Kansas City International Airport, reported a loss of $94 million during its most recent financial quarter.
Capacity at the airline has decreased about 70 percent in the month of April alone.
“The U.S. economy has been at a standstill, and the current outlook for second quarter 2020 indicates no material improvement in air travel trends,” said Gary C. Kelly, the company’s chief executive officer. “Trip cancellations remain at unprecedented levels, though they have receded from their peak in March.”
And even though construction is still reportedly taking place as scheduled for its $1.5-billion single-terminal plan, where Southwest will have a considerable presence, traffic through the airport was cut in half during the month of March.
