Six Regional Hospitals Now Recognized for Nursing, NKCH Wins Magnet Award



North Kansas City Hospital wins the Magnet award for nursing excellence for the second consecutive evaluation period.


North Kansas City Hospital has received the Magnet Award for excellence in nursing. This year marks the second year NKCH received the Magnet designation, previously winning in 2018.

A total of six hospitals native to the Kansas City region have received this designation including: The University of Kansas Health System, Stormont Vail Health and AdventHealth Shawnee Mission for the Kansas side. Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City, North Kansas City Hospital and Children’s Mercy are recipients of the Missouri side

“This is a great achievement for our entire organization,” Stephen Reintjes Sr., MD, president and CEO of NKCH said in a release. “Earning Magnet designation for a second time shows our ongoing dedication to providing the highest quality care for our patients.”

Saint Luke’s has received four designations in 2004, 2009, 2014 and 2019, with the hospital expected to receive a site visit in the fall. 

Formed in 1990, the Magnet study identified characteristics that created an environment conducive to attracting and retaining well-qualified nurses who promoted quality care.
