Six Kansas schools receive national award



The U.S. Department of Education has recognized six different Kansas schools as National Blue Ribbon Schools 2020, a national award programs which honors public and private schools at the elementary, middle and high school levels across the U.S.

On Friday, Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly revealed that six Kansas school have received National Blue Ribbon Schools 2020 recognition.

A national award program under the U.S. Department of Education, National Blue Ribbon Schools honors public and private schools at the elementary, middle and high school levels across the U.S.

Schools that receive recognition meet certain criteria based on academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups, according to a Friday news release from the office of the governor.

“Our state’s dedicated teachers, administrators and staff have once again proved that Kansas is unmatched when it comes to providing a world-class education and a safe and welcoming environment for all students,” Kelly said in the release. “I want to offer my sincere congratulations to each of these districts for earning this distinguished recognition, and for their important work in closing achievement gaps for vulnerable students.”

The six Kansas schools that earned 2020 recognition include: 

  • Bostic Traditional Magnet Elementary School, Wichita Public School District
  • Bradly Elementary School, Fort Leavenworth Unified School District 207
  • Grant F. Timmerman Elementary School, Emporia Public School District
  • Piper Elementary School, Piper-Kansas City School District
  • Prairie Creek Elementary School, Spring Hill School District
  • Thomas Aquinas Catholic School, Catholic Diocese of Wichita
