SVP Worldwide, the owner of Singer, Viking and other sewing-machine brands, has partnered with Rightfully Sewn, a Kansas City-based non-profit that provides seamstress training.
SVP donated 30 sewing machines to the organization, which has made a switch from fashion apparel and is reportedly poised to make 40,000 masks over the next several weeks to help spread the prevention of COVID-19.
Rightfully Sewn, based in the Crossroads neighborhood, was founded in 2015 by Jennifer Lapka, who created it with the mission of creating a garment-making workforce in the Kansas City area, which was once a leader in the industry.
Meanwhile, the Kansas City chapter of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union is reportedly asking Missouri Gov. Mike Parson to require people to wear masks when visiting grocery stores, KMBC reported.
