Shawnee Mission Auto Dealership Will Occupy Vacant Space

A long-time vacant Overland Park space could be the location for a new Shawnee Mission Kia dealership after its parent group, Group 1 Automotive, plans to redevelop the site.

The 5-acre site, located at 8775 Metcalf Ave, last operated as a Reed Jeep Chrysler Dodge Ram dealership before closing in 2008. Houston-based Group 1 Automotive submitted plans to demolish the existing three buildings at the site in order to make way for its own dealership.

Group 1 Automotive plans to develop a 6,400-square-foot Shawnee Mission Kia dealership now after purchasing the property. Proposed plans for the redevelopment include a 229 car lot and a three-bay vehicle service center. The dealership will also have a large showroom and a customer lounge.

Design for the new proposed dealership is being overseen by Kensington, Maryland-based Clear Architectural Design LLC.

Group 1 Automotive currently operates four other locations including Shawnee Mission Kia, 7810 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Overland Park; Baron BMW, 9010 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Merriam; Baron Mini, 9000 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Merriam and Baron Collision Center of Kansas City, 6231 Mastin St., Merriam.
