Prieb Homes Inc. is seeking to construct a 62-lot single-family residential area in western Shawnee, 20 years after an initial project for the site was abandoned.

The Olathe-based home builder plans to construct the new development on nearly 42 acres located on the northwest corner of 71st Street and Clare Road.

On Monday, the Shawnee Planning Commission unanimously approved the project’s rezoning plans. The proposal called for the zoning to change from residential and agricultural to single-family residential.

The Shawnee City Council is scheduled to review the project on March 24.

In 2005, a proposal for Village at Clear Creek was approved for a 74-lot subdivision on 72 acres at the intersection of Clare and 71st. The proposal was submitted by Hertiage Development of Kansas, however, the developer abandoned the project in late 2008, according to city documents.

Phelps Engineering Inc. and Schlagel & Associates are the engineers, Merge Midwest Engineering is the traffic engineer and Meier Landscape Architecture is the landscape architect for the development.
