Two more Saint Luke’s Health System hospitals will be closing this year, Saint Luke’s Community Hospitals at 75th Street and Metcalf Avenue and 159th Street and 69 Highway in Overland Park to shut their doors by Dec. 30.
These upcoming Saint Luke’s closures are not the first in the metro to recently announce an end to their services, the health system closing Cushing Hospital in Leavenworth, Kan. on Oct. 1 due to a COVID-19-related financial strain.
Staff and pay cuts over the summer, increased cost of medical supplies and postponement of procedures – both by providers and patients choosing to opt out and wait – are a few of the key causes behind these closures.
Introduced and opened in 2018, the two Overland park community hospital locations will close to streamline services and focus on locations where there is a greater demand for emergency care, Saint Luke’s Health System said.
After just two short years of operation for the Overland Park locations, a total of five Saint Luke’s Community Hospitals will remain open in the metro which include one in Leawood, The Legends, Olathe, Roeland Park and Shawnee.
