The Kansas City Royals held a press conference Tuesday to discuss the two remaining locations for the new stadium and the economic impact the final product of this more than $2 billion development would have on the greater Kansas City area.

Those locations are in East Village or near the Missouri River in North Kansas City.

The Jackson County East Village location was the first to be presented at the conference. The development would encompass corporate offices, hotels, residential towers and an event plaza. Retail locations would be a part of the proposed offices on the ground floor as well as the addition of vendor locations on Cherry Street for food and beverages.

Next, the Clay County North Kansas City location would see the installment of corporate and hotel buildings surrounding the ballpark much like the East Village site. However, this location has other offered additions including a residential park and garden, a street car stop, a YMCA and a performance venue.

One-time construction impacts would create an estimated 20,000 jobs, $1.4 billion in labor income and $2.8 billion in economic output, according to the Royals’ presentation. Furthermore, in the first year of the new stadium’s operations, the new ballpark would output an estimated $185 million in net new regional economic output. Royals officials said these numbers account for the greater Kansas City area rather than based on the final location of the stadium.

Taxpayers in Jackson County could be impacted by a sales tax extension proposed in late July. The extension would see the 3/8-cent sales tax lease increased from 25 years to 40 years.

A $1 billion private investment from the Royals’ ownership will support the new stadium.

The Royals is expected to hold a press conference detailing the progress on the project beginning at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22, FOX4 reported.
