Restrictions remain in JoCo with two-month extension

The Johnson County, Kan. Board of County Commissioners voted 5-2 in favor of an extension on current COVID-19 restrictions. The extension applies to a public health order which sets limits on gatherings and operational hours, its expiration pushed back to March 31.

In a 5-2 vote by the Johnson County Board of County Commissioners on Thursday, certain COVID-19 restrictions will remain in place in the county for at least the next two months.

The board’s vote moves the expiration of a public health order from Jan. 31 to March 31.

The health order sets limits on gatherings and restricts operating hours for bars, restaurants and some other businesses.

Under the order, gatherings must remain limited to 50 people or 50 percent of a building’s capacity, whichever is less. The order also extends the midnight closing time for bars and restaurants. Carryout, drive-thru and delivery can continue after midnight.

The health order does not include the county’s mask mandate, which remains in effect under a separate order.
