The restaurant industry has had widespread strife since stay-at-home orders were put into place in states across the country, and now the National Restaurant Association (NRA) lobbying group is asking Congress for funding.
The group is reportedly asking Congress for $240 billion, which is the amount of sales the industry is expected to have lost over the year.
The NRA said restaurants have lost $50 billion in sales in April alone and that average sales plunged 57 percent in the first 10 days of the month. A survey by the NRA said that 88 percent of operators have laid off or furloughed employees as a result of COVID-19, totaling eight million workers.
