Regents Approve New Multi-Pronged K-State Institute

The Kansas Board of Regents has approved a new Global Food, Health and Biosecurity institute that “will focus on exploring how Kansas State University can and will lead through teaching, research and service to address these challenges,” according to Provost Chuck Taber.

It still needs $5 million startup funding from the Kansas Legislature.

In his recent presentation to the board Taber said the new institute will “leverage existing academic and research strengths in food science and safety as well as health and well-being while at the same time developing new areas to meet the changing needs of today’s workforce.”

Part of the efforts will include industry-sponsored research and new job creation,
