Kansas City, Missouri, Mayor Quinton Lucas formally recommended a new city manager on Wednesday.
Lucas chose Brian Platt, who has served as the city manager in Jersey City, New Jersey, since 2018. On Thursday, a vote from the Kansas City, Mo. City Council solidified that decision.
In a 9-4 vote, the council approved Brian Platt for the position of city manager.
“Mr. Platt has great experience leading one of America’s most diverse cities,” Lucas said in a letter prior to Thursday’s vote. “As city manager of Jersey City, New Jersey, Mr. Platt has built a more fiscally prudent and stable government operation.”
Platt will begin work in his new role starting Jan. 4.
The search for a new city manager began last November after former city manager Troy Schulte announced his retirement. Schulte had previously served as the city manager of Kansas City for 10 years before that.
In Jersey City, Platt also served as the business administrator and chief operating officer for the city.
