Protests Shift to City Hall

People protesting the death of George Floyd have shifted the position from the Country Club Plaza area to City Hall, in Downtown Kansas City.

In the wake of protests in Kansas City due to the death of George Floyd, the Kansas City Police Department has announced it will issue its officer body cameras.

The cameras are being funded by the local DeBruce Foundation.

Meanwhile, protests over the last few days have been more calm, as far as encounters with police.

Protests around the Country Club Plaza  were reportedly more calm on Tuesday and Wednesday than prior days.

On both days there was no tear gas deployed, though there were an estimated 30 arrests on Tuesday.

“From what I have heard, last evening was the calmest night thus far of protests with the beginning of efforts to de-escalate. I am glad to see it. I will get a full report at daybreak, but I expect the progress we see tonight to continue,” wrote Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas on Twitter.

Saturday and Sunday saw the most violence, when businesses in the Plaza were broken into and had spray paint on their walls. On Saturday, a police cruiser was set set on fire.
