Olathe planners advance health center zoning

Developers seeking rezoning approval for a new Olathe Health medical facility have been granted their request by the Olathe Planning Commission. If given final approval from city council, the two-story, 67,327-square-foot center will be built near West 151st Street and Quivira Road.

A lot on the northwest corner of 151st Street and Quivira Road has sat vacant for more than a decade. Now, Olathe Health is looking to build a two-story medical office building on it.

The Olathe Planning Commission approved on Monday night Olathe Health’s request to rezone more than 8 acres from the Planned Single-Family Residential District to the Office District, along with a preliminary site development plan. The Olathe City Council still must give final approval.

Neighbors are worried that Quivira Road isn’t wide enough to handle an increase in traffic. They’ve wondered if more traffic will make 151st Street dangerous for children who attend Morse Elementary School.

If the rezone is approved by the city council, the Olathe Health Quivira Campus would be built on the 8.57-acre lot. The proposed rezone would allow developers to build a two-story, 67,327-square-foot medical center. The site plan also includes a 298-space parking lot that will be located directly behind the medical center.
