High hopes for south Kansas City’s Project Fairway have faltered, plans for its construction recently canceled by the City Plan Commission just as plans were drawing near to final approval.
Proposed plans for the massive 700,000-square-foot fulfillment center had been pitched as the region’s eighth Amazon distribution center, now pulled from the city docket.
Estimated to be a $250 million development along with an $80 million logistics site spurred talk about the project potentially delivering 1,000 jobs to the area.
Building plans had the proposed warehouse and distribution center set within the I-49 Industrial Center, on the site of the former Richards-Gebaur Air Force base.
After previously achieving progress through different levels of city approval, why Project Fairway fell short remains unclear.
Despite the loss, the industrial center located near Botts and Andrew roads expects to see a steady stream of other activity.
