Power Five leaders discuss postponing college football season

Discussions have begun and are expected to continue over the next few days regarding whether the football season and other fall sports will be postponed or canceled entirely.

College sports leaders from the Power Five (referring to five athletic conferences whose members are part of the Football Bowl Subdivision of NCAA Division I), have already begun meeting to discuss the fate of this season’s fall sports.

Although not many concrete decisions have been made for a fall plan, discussions are expected to continue this week, some leaning strongly toward postponement and even cancellation for some sports.

“It’s an ongoing conversation we’ve been having for weeks,” Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby told CBS Sports. “We talk almost every day. I’m not aware decisions have been made.”

The Power Five conferences include the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Big 12 Conference, the Big Ten Conference, the Pac-12 Conference, and the Southeastern Conference.

This past Saturday, the Mid-American Conference announced that it will be postponing its fall schedule, making it the first conference from NCAA’s top tier Division I Football Bowl Subdivision to postpone its football season, reports CNN.
