Port KC and the Kansas City Current announced they have come to a $800 million agreement to develop approximately 10 acres of land adjacent to Berkley Riverfront Park.
The land will see the development of a high-density, diverse and walkable neighborhood and will be expanded in phases across a 10-year plan, according to a press release.
The proposed 2 million square feet development will include office, retail, and approximately 1,000 multi-family residential units that will include 10 percent of those units at 50 percent AMI.
“Today is the latest milestone for Berkley Riverfront,” Port KC CEO Jon Stephens said. “A vision to see this once-forgotten and scarred piece of land turn into a vibrant blend of commerce, work, and recreation inviting to all. Now that dream, which has been years in the making, is coming to fruition. We have been very deliberate in our process to design and build this gem in the middle of Kansas City and we appreciate the partners who share our excitement about Berkley Riverfront’s future.”
Furthermore, the development of this new project will join existing projects such as the KC Current Stadium, Bar K and the Origin Hotel.
