Popular Kansas City Boulevardia street festival canceled again

The annual outdoor festival that attracts thousands has been canceled for the second year in a row due to COVID-19. Organizers are planning for a June 2022 return at a new location near Crown Center.

One of Kansas City’s favorite street festivals will not return in 2021 due to COVID-19.

Organizers announced Tuesday that Boulavardia 2021 has been canceled.

This marks the second year in a row the event has been canceled because of COVID-19. It was canceled in 2020 and was slated to return in June at a new location near Crown Center.

The popular event is now scheduled to return in June 2022. Organizers said the decision was made to allow the Kansas City community time to focus on health and well-being and return.

“Great strides have been made to overcome COVID-19 as a community,” organizers said in a Tuesday news release. “But we’ve decided that moving forward with a festival this June would not allow us to put on the best Boulevardia the way we all know and love.

“When Boulevardia comes back, we want it to be the best celebration possible for our citizens, artists, partners, staff, and the entire Kansas City community,” the release said. “With that in mind, we’re focusing our efforts on ensuring our 2022 pop-up party nation is the best one yet.”
