Plans emerge to turn old KC Fed building into hotel

A recent proposal envisions turning the vacant tower at 925 Grand Boulevard into an Embassy Suites hotel. Delta Quad Holdings LLC seeks to transform the historic 21-story downtown property, formerly home to the Kansas City Federal Reserve, to the tune of $182 million.

One of Kansas City’s premier historic buildings soon could see a long-planned $182 million conversion to an Embassy Suites hotel begin after 13 years of vacancy.

Delta Quad Holdings LLC seeks to build 284 hotel rooms, a parking garage with about 450 spaces and a series of sidewalk, streetscape and lighting improvements for the former Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City headquarters, located at 925 Grand Blvd.

A 40,000-square-foot family entertainment center with virtual reality games is planned underneath the building and partly within an adjacent four-story annex building.

The developer is an affiliate of Niles, Michigan-based Roos Enterprises Inc.

Built in 1921, the 21-story former Federal Reserve building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as one of 12 original Federal Reserve banks Congress established in 1913.
