Plans clear for Scannell Properties’ warehouse project at former Woodlands racetrack

The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kan. has approved Scannell’s plans to build a 3 million-square-foot warehouse facility composed of five buildings on the grounds of the former Woodlands racetrack.

Currently sitting vacant, the Woodlands racetrack will soon begin to be replaced by a warehouse distribution center and office park after the project – proposed by Scannell Properties – was approved by the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kan.

The plan involves the construction of five separate buildings totaling 3 million square feet on 419 acres.

A lengthy discussion held by the Unified Government last Thursday resulted in approved rezoning and a master plan amendment to support the development proposal.

Of the five buildings included in the proposal, “Project Super Bowl” will be the first and largest of the five, planned to take up 1.08 million square feet.

Scannell has confirmed though not revealed a prospective tenant for “Project Super Bowl,” said to be an 850-employee logistics facility focused on distribution of goods.

A tenant for the second building is in the works, reports Scannell, while the last three buildings in the proposal will be developed based on demand.
