Planners Defer Deer Creek Decision

City planners in Overland Park have pushed back consideration of a plan to shrink the footprint of Deer Creek Golf Course for construction of a 224-unit apartment complex. The city’s Planning Commission voted unanimously last week to defer discussion of that proposal until it convenes again on Jan. 10.

Under the plan offered by GLDC LLC, 11 acres of the course property would be rezoned from single-family residential to high-rise apartment status. That would shave some of the distance off of the first and 10th holes at Deer Creek.

In its current form, the new construction would yield 132 one-bedroom apartments, 68 two-bedroom units and 24 studio apartments. It calls for three buildings, of three, four and five stories, and would include a clubhouse and pool, picnic areas, and a walking trail with a fitness area.

If it gets a green light from the commission, the plan would go to the City Council for final approval.
