Petition Calls for New Community Improvement District in Shawnee Shopping Center

Overland Park-based Cadence Commercial Real Estate is petitioning the City of Shawnee to add a community improvement district (CID) to Monticello Village Shopping Center.

Located near Shawnee Mission Parkway at the northwest corner of 67th Street and Monticello Road, the CID aims to increase the area’s vitality through the effect of new tax incentives.

If approved, the petition requests that the City impose a 1 percent sales tax within the Monticello Village CID, encompassing a 17-acre area, according to the petition.

The costs of the redevelopments within the Monticello Village CID are approximately $21.3 million and the approximate amount of the CID costs to be reimbursed from the CID sales taxes is $6.1 million.

The next public hearing will be held on October 23, where, city council members will decide whether to approve the CID proposal.
